SLF Wins Rare Reversal of Jury Verdict After Two-Week Trial

Jury Verdict Reversed!🎉

We’re happy to report that SLF won a rare reversal of a jury verdict after a two-week trial. The case involves alleged retaliation against James Thomas, a Licensed Vocational Nurse at Kaiser. James worked at Kaiser for five years. Kaiser fired him soon after he complained about what he believed was an unsafe working condition (a staircase with slippery flooring). The jury returned a complete defense verdict for Kaiser after a two-week trial.

The California Court of Appeal agreed with Stiller Law Firm’s core arguments and reversed the judgment. It held that the trial court wrongly dismissed key claims, and the dismissal tainted the verdict. James now gets his case back and can try to prove he was wrongfully terminated based on all of the evidence.

This decision reinforces an important principle: employees have the right to raise safety concerns without fear of retaliation.
